Serengeti gives you 3 days across the border in Tanzania's iconic park. The Seronera Valley is one of the most productive wildlife zones in Africa. Leopards in the fig trees. Lions on every kopje. Cheetahs hunting on the open plains.
Ngorongoro Crater adds a completely different dimension. 600 square kilometers of enclosed caldera. Some of the highest wildlife concentrations anywhere in Africa. All four of the Big Five regularly spotted in a single morning.

Detailed 10-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara
Your driver-guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel early morning. The drive descends the Great Rift Valley escarpment — a dramatic introduction to the landscape ahead. Driving time is approximately 5 to 6 hours.
You'll arrive at your camp by midday. Check in, have lunch, then head straight out for your first afternoon game drive. Expect elephants, giraffe, zebra, and your first lion sightings within hours of arrival.
Overnight: Tented camp or lodge, Masai Mara ecosystem.
Day 2: Full Day Masai Mara
Full day of game drives. Early morning departure before sunrise. The Mara is famous for its predator density. Lions are typically spotted daily. Cheetah sightings are common in the open grasslands. Leopards patrol the riverine forest.
Watch for the Big Five. Buffalo herds are massive here. Elephant families move through regularly. The black rhino population, while smaller, is present. From July to October, watch for wildebeest crossing points along the Mara River.
Optional: Hot air balloon safari at dawn, booked separately and highly recommended for photographers.
Overnight: Same camp, Masai Mara.
Day 3: Full Day Masai Mara
A second full day means no rushing. Use this day to go deeper — track specific lion prides, spend time at the river, or explore less-visited corners of the reserve. Your guide will adapt to what the wildlife is doing.
This is where most operators shortchange you. One day in the Mara is never enough. Excellent photography light in the morning. Golden hour in the late afternoon. Bring a second memory card.
Overnight: Same camp, Masai Mara.
Day 4: Masai Mara to Serengeti via Isebania Border
An early start. You'll drive south to the Isebania/Sirare border crossing between Kenya and Tanzania. The border process is straightforward — your guide handles the logistics. Tanzania visa fees apply if you haven't arranged an e-visa in advance.
After crossing, you switch to a Tanzanian guide and vehicle. The drive continues into the Serengeti, with game viewing en route as you enter the park. Driving time to the Serengeti is approximately 4 to 5 hours from the Mara including border formalities. You'll arrive in the central Serengeti by afternoon.
Overnight: Tented camp, Central Serengeti (Seronera area).
Day 5: Full Day Serengeti
The Seronera Valley is the wildlife heart of the Serengeti. Full day game drives from sunrise. Lions are arguably more visible here than anywhere else in Africa. The kopjes — rock outcroppings scattered across the plains — are regular resting spots for predators.
Watch for lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hyena, and wildebeest herds.
Migration timing: The herds move through the Serengeti from January through July before crossing into Kenya. Your guide will update you on exact locations based on current wildlife movement.
Overnight: Central Serengeti camp.
Day 6: Full Day Serengeti
A second full Serengeti day separates this itinerary from standard 10-day packages that rush through. Use the morning for a long game drive following the previous day's animal movements. Afternoons offer excellent light for photography along the Seronera River — hippos, crocodiles, and kingfishers.
Optional: evening sundowner in the bush with your guide. This day often produces the best wildlife sightings of the entire trip. Wildlife doesn't show up on schedule — time in the field is everything.
Overnight: Central Serengeti camp.
Day 7: Serengeti to Ngorongoro
Morning game drive as you exit the Serengeti. Watch for wildlife right up until you leave the park. Drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Optional stop at Olduvai Gorge — one of the most significant paleoanthropological sites in the world, where early human fossils were discovered. Worth 30 to 45 minutes if history interests you.
You'll arrive at the crater rim in the afternoon. The views are immediately striking — a 600-square-kilometer caldera stretching out below. Sunset from the crater rim is exceptional for photography.
Overnight: Crater rim lodge or camp, Ngorongoro.
Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater Safari
An early descent into the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is unlike any other safari experience. The enclosed ecosystem means wildlife is concentrated and visible throughout the day. You're not searching — you're choosing what to watch.
Expect lion prides, elephant bulls, buffalo herds, hippos in the lake, flamingos, hyena clans, golden jackals, and both black and white rhino. The crater floor is the most reliable rhino-sighting location in East Africa.
Full day inside the crater with a picnic lunch. Afternoon ascent back to the rim.
Overnight: Crater rim lodge or camp, Ngorongoro.
Day 9: Ngorongoro to Arusha or Amboseli
Option A — Ngorongoro to Arusha: Drive from the crater to Arusha, approximately 3 hours. Arusha is Tanzania's safari hub. Rest, explore the town, visit the local craft market, or arrange any optional activities. Overnight: hotel or lodge, Arusha.
Option B — Ngorongoro to Amboseli: Drive north via the Namanga border crossing back into Kenya and on to Amboseli National Park. Amboseli sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. On a clear morning, the views are extraordinary. Overnight: camp or lodge, Amboseli ecosystem.
Day 10: Departure
Option A — Arusha Departure: Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or onward travel from Arusha.
Option B — Full Morning Amboseli + Nairobi: Early morning game drive in Amboseli — the best time for Kilimanjaro views and elephant photography. Large elephant herds, bulls with enormous tusks, family groups moving across the plains with Kilimanjaro as the backdrop.
Drive to Nairobi after the morning drive, approximately 4 hours. Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
This tour can be extended to include a relaxing beach holiday at Diani Beach on Kenya's coast or a tropical escape to the exotic island of Zanzibar. Both destinations offer pristine white sands, turquoise waters, and a perfect end to your safari adventure.

Is 10 days enough for Kenya and Tanzania?
Yes. Ten days is the ideal length for this combination. It gives you 3 nights in the Masai Mara, 3 nights in the Serengeti, 2 nights at Ngorongoro, and time for the Amboseli extension if you want it. Anything shorter means rushing. Anything longer gives you time to add Tarangire or the Kenyan coast.
How much does a 10-day Kenya and Tanzania safari cost?

What is the best time for this safari?
Any time of year works — each season offers different highlights. July to October is peak season: the Mara River crossings are happening and wildlife is concentrated around water sources, though parks are busier. January to March offers excellent predator action, the Serengeti calving season in the southern plains, and fewer crowds. April to June is the green season — lower prices, lush landscapes, newborn wildlife, and very few tourists. An underrated time to go.
Can I see the Great Migration on this safari?
Yes — some aspect of the migration is visible year-round. The wildebeest herds are in the Serengeti from January through June. They cross the Mara River between July and October. Your guide will advise on exact herd locations based on your travel dates. No operator can guarantee a river crossing — wildlife moves on its own timeline — but this itinerary positions you well throughout the year.
Is the border crossing between Kenya and Tanzania difficult?
No. The Isebania/Sirare border crossing is the standard crossing for this safari route and your guide handles the logistics. You'll need a valid passport, applicable visa fees, and your safari documents. East African Community citizens cross with a national ID. If you're flying out of Kilimanjaro or Arusha, your guide can arrange an alternative return route. Allow 1–2 hours for the crossing formalities.
Should I finish in Arusha or Amboseli?
It depends on your priorities. Finish in Arusha if you're flying out of Kilimanjaro Airport, planning to extend to Zanzibar, or simply want a more relaxed final day. Add Amboseli if you're a photographer, an elephant enthusiast, or flying out of Nairobi. The Kilimanjaro views from Amboseli are unlike anything else on the itinerary and it's a strong finish to the trip.
Is this safari suitable for families?
Yes. This is a well-established, low-risk route with comfortable camps, paved main roads between parks, and clear daily structure. Children over 6 are generally accepted at most camps on this circuit. Some luxury camps have no minimum age. Let us know the ages of your children and we'll match you with family-friendly properties and adjust the itinerary pace accordingly.
