Born from a Love of the Wild

Locally Owned.
Locally Led. Deeply Rooted.

Beyond The Plains Safaris was founded by John and his wife Mary, built on John's more than 15 years of on-the-ground experience guiding and organising safaris across Kenya. What started as a deep personal passion for East Africa's landscapes and wildlife grew into something bigger: a mission to share that passion with curious, adventurous travellers from every corner of the world.

We are a locally owned and operated Kenya safari specialist — and that matters. We do not manage Africa from a distant boardroom. We live here. We know when the rains shift the migration paths, which guides have that rare instinct for spotting a leopard at rest in the branches, and which lodges deliver not just comfort but soul. That local knowledge is your greatest advantage.

Every safari we craft is a promise — to connect our guests with the raw, untamed beauty of Kenya in a way that is responsible, memorable, and life-changing.

John Daudi

Director & Founder

"Every safari we craft is a promise, to connect our guests with the raw, untamed beauty of Kenya in a way that is responsible, memorable, and life-changing."

With over 15 years orchestrating unforgettable safaris, John's passion for the Maasai Mara's endless plains and the extraordinary wildlife that roams them is the heartbeat of Beyond The Plains Safaris. He co-founded the company with his wife Mary on a single conviction: that deep local knowledge is a traveller's greatest advantage.

A fully bonded member of the Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO), recognised as 1st Runners-Up for Best Tour Operator in Kenya at the 2025 Tourism Excellence Awards, John leads with the belief that a well-planned safari, timed right, routed correctly, guided expertly, changes you.

Biron Ogola, Senior SEO Specialist and Safari Content Writer at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Biron Ogola

Senior SEO Specialist & Safari Content Writer

"Africa's stories deserve to be told in ways that make you feel the dust, the silence, and the thrill — before you even board the plane."

Biron is the voice that brings Beyond The Plains Safaris to life online. As Senior SEO Specialist, Safari Content Writer, and Itinerary Planner, he sits at the intersection of storytelling and strategy, crafting safari narratives that inform, inspire, and convert.

He designs itineraries with the same precision he applies to content: every detail deliberate, every sequence purposeful. Biron believes that the best Kenya safari begins long before departure, with the right information, told in the right way, reaching the right traveller at exactly the right moment.

Felix Obari, Senior Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Felix Obari

Senior Safari Specialist

"The elephant does not hurry. She knows where she is going, and she will be magnificent when she gets there. My job is to make sure you are in the right place to witness it."

Felix has an exceptional eye for spotting the Big Five and knows every secret corner of Amboseli National Park. His guests consistently say that watching elephant herds move against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro with Felix beside them is among the most profound experiences of their lives.

A quiet, deeply observant specialist, Felix reads the landscape and the animals within it with a fluency that only years in the field can teach.

Julius Kariuki, Senior Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Julius Kariuki

Senior Safari Specialist

"Kenya is not just landscape. She is history, culture, and memory. I carry all three on every drive I lead."

Julius Kariuki arrived at safari work the way most great storytellers arrive at their craft, through an insatiable need to understand not just what he was seeing, but why it mattered. He has spent years weaving Kenya's rich cultural history, its geological drama, and its extraordinary wildlife into game drives that guests describe as unlike anything they expected.

His favourite canvas is Lake Nakuru, where flamingo clouds paint the shoreline pink at first light and the ancient story of the Rift Valley's formation unfolds across the horizon like a geology lecture delivered by the earth itself. Julius knows that story intimately, its timescales, its forces, its ongoing significance, and he tells it in ways that make guests feel they are witnessing something alive rather than observing something static.

Beyond the landscape, Julius brings a genuine fascination with aviation and the mechanics of modern travel to his work, an interest that keeps him sharp, current, and deeply attuned to how today's travellers think and experience the world. Guests who travel with Julius leave not merely having seen Kenya, but having begun to understand her.

Linet Wanjiru, Senior Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Linet Wanjiru

Senior Safari Specialist

"Most people see a bird. I hear a story. Every species has one, and Kenya has over a thousand of them."

Linet Wanjiru's passion for Kenya's wildlife runs deeper than the headline sightings. With encyclopaedic knowledge of Kenya's national parks and reserves, and the rare ability to identify over 300 bird species by sound alone, she curates experiences that combine breathtaking scenery with genuine wildlife depth. Her dedication to understanding each traveller's interests means no two itineraries she designs are alike, every journey is thoughtfully shaped around the people making it.

Her enthusiasm is infectious, transforming guests who arrive as passive observers into people who lean forward, listen carefully, and leave with a fundamentally richer understanding of the natural world. Her deepest passion lies in Samburu's rugged northern wilderness, home to the rare Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk, Kenya's unique northern specials found nowhere else on the continent. Wherever Linet guides, her commitment remains the same: to ensure that every moment in the field feels not just memorable, but truly alive.

Fridah Kimathi, Senior Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Fridah Kimathi

Senior Safari Specialist

"Luxury on safari is not about the thread count. It is about arriving at the right place at exactly the right moment."

Fridah Kimathi has spent her career turning client dreams into carefully engineered reality. As a Senior Safari Specialist at Beyond The Plains Safaris, she brings a deep love for Africa's wild places and an instinctive understanding of what each traveller truly needs, even when they are not yet sure themselves. Her expertise spans the full range of safari travel: whether she is crafting a budget adventure that wrings every ounce of wonder from a modest spend, a mid-range escape that balances comfort with authenticity, or a high-end luxury journey through Kenya's most exclusive private conservancies, Fridah approaches each itinerary with the same exacting care.

The big cats hold a particular pull for her, and her instinct for where and when to find them has become one of the things guests speak about long after they return home. But it is Tsavo, with its red elephants drifting through ancient baobab groves, that captures what she loves most about this work: that moment when wild Africa reveals itself completely, and a guest understands, for the first time, exactly what they came for. Alongside her team at Beyond The Plains Safaris, Fridah goes the extra mile, because extraordinary memories, she believes, are never accidental.

Alex Obasanjo, Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Alex Obasanjo

Safari Specialist

"Golden hour on the savannah does not repeat itself. You get one. I make sure you are in exactly the right position when it happens."

Photography enthusiasts consistently rate Alex among the finest guides they have ever worked with. He knows precisely when and where the light falls perfectly across each landscape — and he plans every drive around those moments.

His favourite destination is Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where he introduces guests to the last northern white rhinos on Earth, a quietly devastating and profoundly moving encounter that changes how people think about wildlife conservation.

Andrew Muriithi, Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Andrew Muriithi

Safari Specialist

"The best safari is not the one you planned. It is the one that surprises you, and I live for the surprises."

Andrew Muriithi designs safaris the way a seasoned explorer approaches uncharted territory, with rigorous preparation, genuine curiosity, and an absolute refusal to let a journey become predictable. Across Kenya and Tanzania, he has built a reputation for creating experiences that feel effortless from the outside and are meticulously engineered on the inside: every transfer timed, every camp chosen with purpose, every game drive positioned to maximise the extraordinary.

What distinguishes Andrew is not just his technical competence but his instinct for wonder. He has a rare ability to make first-time travellers feel immediately at home in wild places, to transform the unfamiliar into something welcoming without ever diluting its wildness. His passion finds its fullest expression at Hell's Gate National Park, where guests walk and cycle through towering volcanic gorges alongside zebras and buffalo without the barrier of a vehicle window. Raw, immediate, and unlike anywhere else in Kenya, it is exactly the kind of experience Andrew lives to deliver.

Lilian Wairimu, Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Lilian Wairimu

Safari Specialist

"Travel is as much about people as it is about places. I design safaris for families, and I design them to become the stories they tell for the rest of their lives."

Lilian Wairimu arrived at safari consulting through a genuine, enduring love for Africa, its landscapes, its wildlife, the cultures woven through it, and the way it transforms the people who encounter it for the first time. Warm, patient, and deeply people-oriented, she specialises in creating personalised safari experiences across Kenya and Tanzania that reflect the specific interests, pace, and character of each traveller she works with.

She is particularly skilled with families and first-time safari guests, people who arrive with a mix of excitement and uncertainty, and who leave with something they did not entirely expect: a genuine, lasting connection to a place that has claimed them. Her instinct for what works across different age groups makes her the first choice for multi-generational travel. She loves introducing guests to Nairobi National Park, where lions are photographed against a backdrop of city skyscrapers, a sight found nowhere else on Earth, and one that never fails to stop people completely still.

Lisper Muthengi, Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Lisper Muthengi

Safari Specialist

"A flawless safari is invisible. When everything runs perfectly, our guests notice only the wildlife, and that is exactly how it should be."

Detail-oriented and meticulous, Lisper is the specialist behind safaris that simply work, where transfers connect, accommodation meets expectations, and the itinerary flows without a single unnecessary wait. She considers logistics a craft, not an afterthought.

She adores Lake Naivasha's serene beauty, where hippos graze at dusk along the papyrus-lined shores and fish eagles call from the fever trees, a destination that rewards quiet observation above all else.

Maurine Nyabuto, Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Maurine Nyabuto

Safari Specialist

"Romance and wilderness are not opposites. Some of the most intimate moments people share happen on safari — and I plan for every one of them."

Maurine Nyabuto understands something that many specialists overlook: that a honeymoon safari is not simply a holiday with better lodges. It is, for most couples, one of the most significant journeys of their lives — and it deserves to be planned with the care, precision, and emotional intelligence that significance demands. A dedicated and detail-oriented specialist, she handles every element of the planning process, itineraries, bookings, logistics, and the hundred small considerations that separate a smooth journey from a stressful one.

What truly sets her apart is her eye for the details that transform a great safari into an unforgettable one: the sunrise bush breakfast laid out on an open plain, the private game drive timed to golden hour, the lodge that feels genuinely designed for two. Her heart belongs to Diani Beach, where turquoise Indian Ocean waters meet powder-white sand in one of Kenya's most romantic and unhurried settings. She designs coastal extensions that give couples the perfect counterpoint to the raw energy of the bush, and the perfect way to close an East Africa journey.

Mitchell Nyambura, Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Mitchell Nyambura

Safari Specialist

"First-time safari guests are my favourite. I get to watch the moment Kenya claims them, and it always does."

Mitchell's warm personality and genuine patience make her especially skilled with guests who are new to Africa. She understands the mix of excitement and uncertainty that comes with a first safari, and she has a talent for turning that uncertainty into pure wonder.

She treasures Mount Kenya's alpine meadows and the remarkable wildlife that inhabits them, forest elephants, rare sunbirds, and colobus monkeys moving through the canopy beneath Africa's second-highest peak. A side of Kenya that most visitors never see, and one she loves revealing.

Sammy Muteti, Safari Specialist at Beyond the Plains Safaris

Sammy Muteti

Safari Specialist

"Meru is Kenya before the crowds discovered her. Wild, quiet, and utterly her own. I take people there when they are ready to experience the real thing."

Sammy brings youthful energy and sharp modern planning instincts to every safari he coordinates. He understands how today's travellers research, decide, and experience — and he uses that understanding to design journeys that exceed expectations at every stage.

He is deeply attached to Meru National Park — Kenya's most underrated wilderness, where Elsa the lioness was raised and returned to the wild, and where the landscape remains gloriously, defiantly unspoiled. Sammy considers it the most honest safari destination in East Africa.

Safari with a Conscience

Africa's Wilderness
Deserves Our Respect

Africa's wilderness is not a backdrop. It is a living, breathing ecosystem that deserves to be protected as much as it is experienced.

Our commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism ensures that every trip we run actively supports local communities and helps preserve the natural environment we are privileged to call home. We believe that the best safari is one that leaves the land better than we found it.

We work exclusively with eco-certified properties and community-based initiatives. Every booking contributes to the conservation of Kenya's extraordinary wildlife heritage and the livelihoods of the communities that live alongside it.

  • 01

    Community Support

Every safari we operate directs revenue to local communities near the parks we visit, supporting sustainable livelihoods and conservation incentives.

  • 02

    Eco-Certified Partners

We select lodges and camps that operate to verified environmental standards and that actively invest in habitat and species protection.

  • 03

    Wildlife Safety

Our guides are trained in low-impact game viewing practices. We maintain strict protocols around wildlife distances and behaviour that ensure the animals' wellbeing is never compromised for a photograph.

  • 04

    Local Employment

Every member of our team is Kenyan. We employ, train, and develop local talent exclusively, ensuring that the economic benefits of tourism stay in the communities that make it possible.
