How long should an African safari be?
Most Kenya and Tanzania safaris run 7 to 10 days — long enough to properly cover 2–3 parks without rushing between them. A short 4–5 day trip works if you're focused on a single park like the Maasai Mara. Combined Kenya and Tanzania routes covering the full Great Migration ecosystem typically need 10–14 days, and adding a Zanzibar beach extension pushes that to 13–15 days. When is the best time for a Tanzania safari?
Tanzania's Serengeti has excellent wildlife year-round. The Great Migration calving season runs December–February in the southern Serengeti — one of the most dramatic events in East Africa. River crossings in the northern Serengeti peak July–October, overlapping with Kenya's Maasai Mara. The Ngorongoro Crater is strong all year. February offers high wildlife activity with lower rates than peak season.
