Getting There & Border Logistics

Fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), Nairobi. Your guide meets you at arrivals for a private transfer, no shared shuttle.

Note on vehicle handovers: Kenyan-registered vehicles cannot operate inside Tanzanian national parks, and Tanzanian-registered vehicles cannot operate inside Kenyan ones. Because of this, both the Isebania and Namanga crossings on this itinerary involve a vehicle and driver-guide handover, not a single vehicle travelling the whole route. Your original guide takes you to the border, and a new guide and vehicle are waiting on the other side, arranged in advance so it doesn't cost you a game drive.

Isebania Border (Kenya–Tanzania)

Your Kenyan driver-guide and vehicle take you to the border. A Tanzanian driver-guide and vehicle are waiting to continue the journey into the Serengeti. Have your Tanzania visa ready; e-visa applications are processed in advance.

Namanga Border (Tanzania–Kenya)

The same handover process applies on the return leg: your Tanzanian guide and vehicle bring you to Namanga, where a Kenyan guide and vehicle take you on to Nairobi. Your Kenya ETA should be approved before travel.

Yellow Fever

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you're arriving from or have transited through a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Check current requirements with your travel clinic before departure.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof gives every passenger a window seat and full standing room for photography. It handles Serengeti and Ngorongoro terrain better than a van, and because it's private, your schedule isn't dictated by other travellers.

July to September offers the Mara River crossings during the Great Migration. January to March is calving season in the Serengeti and quieter on the roads. Both windows work well for this itinerary, the difference is migration timing versus lower crowds.

Kenyan-registered vehicles cannot operate inside Tanzanian national parks, and Tanzanian-registered vehicles cannot operate inside Kenyan ones, so both the Isebania and Namanga crossings involve a vehicle and driver-guide handover. Your original guide takes you to the border, and a new guide and vehicle are waiting on the other side, arranged in advance so it doesn't cost you a game drive.

You'll need a Kenya ETA and a Tanzania visa, both obtainable online before travel. A yellow fever certificate is required if arriving from or transiting a country with yellow fever risk.

Yes. Dates, pace, lodge category, and specific parks can all be adjusted. Some travellers add a hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti or extend with a Zanzibar beach stay.
