Murchison falls:  By the end of this day, you’ll have walked in the famous footsteps of Winston Churchill – who hiked, biked and boated up the falls – Ernest Hemmingway, who, ever the adventurer, featured in a double plane crash within 24 hours of each other over the falls, Theodore Roosevelt whose 1909 African hunting “I’ll need the big gun” adventure would have simply been a trip if it hadn’t featured these legendary falls, the Queen Mother in 1959, Prince Albert, and Humphrey Bogart. Get the idea? A treat! Prides of Lions, Leopards, herds of elephants, hippo, Rothschild’s giraffes, Cape buffalo, oribi, hartebeest warthog, waterbucks and the elegant Uganda Kob call this part of the world home. And that’s just the Savannah! A trip down the river endows occasion to see some of the world’s largest crocodiles engage, stalk and bait some of the other animals.

For avid bird-watchers, Murchison falls National Park is home to an astronomical 450 bird species. Species include the Egyptian plover, Red winged grey warbler, Rock pranticole, Secretary bird, bat hawk, Denham’s bustard, Pels fishing owl, White crested turaco, Vinaceous dove, Senegal thicknee, bruces green pigeon, Chestnut crowned sparrow weaver, Carmine bee eater, Night jars (pennant winged and Standard winged), White rumped canary and the peculiar shoe-bills (Whale – headed storks) that stand about 4 feet high, solitary and silent. Monstrous birds that possess huge beaks capable of crushing small crocs. Dinner and repose at Lodge.

Depart Murchison Falls through rolling hills and tea-plantation country to the scenic town of Fort Portal, a town set in the shadow of the “Mountains of the Moon,” welcome to primate tracking and trekking country. You’ve awoken on the edge of Kibale Forest National Park, the most accessible of Uganda’s natural rainforests and home to a remarkable 13 primate species. After breakfast, we embark on a guided trek to track habituated chimps, delightful apes closer to the human DNA than any other animal. (Both guided and unguided options available) A delight to watch as they squabble, feed and play in their natural environment.  A network of lush forest provides botanists, butterfly and bird lovers a vast array of flora and fauna delight, with more than 300 bird species that include the Prirogrine’s ground thrush, bar-tailed Trogon, Fine-banded woodpecker, White-bellied Crested Flycatcher and Red-faced Crimson-wing. 21 species of fruit feeding butterfly species, the elusive forest elephant, which moves seasonally into the park, half a dozen antelope species, giant forest hog and buffalo are other delights of the park. Savannah country! Prepare to see Leopards, Lions, herds of elephants buffalo, hippo and, for a cruise on the Kazinga Channel, one of the stopovers for the largest bird migrations in the world (QENP has 568 of Uganda’s bird species -over a quarter of Africa’s bird species) more than any other park in Africa! Today, wetland country, exotic birds and, more game stalking at Queen Elizabeth National park, Semi-deciduous forest interlaced with spectacular lakes and craters. Nature walks, an experience of the “Blue Lake” and exotic nature trails. You’re on the edge of the Great Albertine Rift Valley – a geographical, ecological and bio-diversity marvel. This is the “Rift Valley” leg of your trip – a geologic depression with elements in southwest Asia and Eastern Africa extending from the Jordan River valley in the Middle East to Mozambique. This region of the country is part of that rift valley system and is marked by a series of faults caused by volcanic action. Batman country! Prepare to experience bat caves! Later in the evening a boat cruise at Kazinga Channel and wind off the evening at the lodge

Today, we depart for Bwindi impenetrable National Park. Stop over for a scenic lunch interlude through lion hunting country don’t put your camera down just yet! We’ll also spend part of the later afternoon interacting with local communities close to the National Park, restocking (batteries etc) and light shopping for souvenirs before we relax, rejuvenate and revitalize from the day’s drive. Dinner and Overnight at Chameleon Hill or Nkuringo Gorilla Camp

You awake huddled amidst the lofty, cultivated hillsides of southwestern Uganda; home to half of the remaining population of our planet’s endangered Mountain Gorilla species. There are few wildlife experiences that can compare to tracking a family of mountain gorillas through the thick, tropical rainforests of Uganda, their natural habitat.

The day is divided into morning and afternoon activities. Excursions into Gorilla country, guided nature treks venturing “into the deep” to experience unfortunately, the last of these species in their natural environment. Expect to trek a reasonable distance in challenging landscape conditions before you encounter these gentle giants. A challenging but most definitely rewarding, worthwhile, one of a kind experience! In the evening, visit Batwa people-the pygmies. Dinner and Overnight at Chameleon Hill or Nkuringo Gorilla Camp

A scenic drive to Lake Bunyonyi “the place of little birds,” and one of the deepest crater Lakes in Africa. There are more than 200 species of bird life in the area. An excellent, serene, tranquil resort with 29 Islands sprawled about the Lake. Activities include swimming, canoeing to one of the islands, bird watching, and or perhaps simply the perfect place to pause and reflect on an amazing trip with a book, journal or camera. You’ll love the locals! Dinner and Overnight at Resort

After having breakfast, we take a morning drive to Lake Mburo National Park; Antelope, Topi, Zebra, Eland and Impala country. Other animals comprising the 68 mammal species at Lake Mburo National Park include the warthog, Buffalo, Oribi, Defassa waterbuck and reedbuck, leopards and hyenas. Bird species in the park include the Shoebill, papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus yellow warbler, red-faced Barbet among 313 recorded bird species.

Activities include: boat Trip to the eastern shores of Lake Mburo, prime voyage for crocodile and hippopotamus exploration, as well as birds including pelicans, heron, cormorant, fish eagle and on occasion, the rare shoebill stork, Salt Lick Guided walks – natural saline deposits draw animals to “Rwonyo” “the place of natural salt.” It is not uncommon to see 5 different animal species at this location from the timber observation platform. Dinner and Overnight at the Lodge

Breakfast, and then take a safari on foot. Return to the lodge; pack your bags in the safari vehicle and drive to Kampala. Arrive in the afternoon and check in at your hotel. Dinner and Overnight at Hotel

Already? On this last day of your Safari, we’ll visit souvenir or African craft shops in Kampala. On this day lunch and dinner is not included but our guide will drive you to one of African restaurants in Kampala before dropping you off at Entebbe international airport for your flight back home. On second thoughts, could we do this all over again?
