Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi/Mombasa – Tsavo East National Park
Depart early morning by private Land Cruiser. From Nairobi, expect a 4–5 hour drive; from Mombasa or Diani, 3–4 hours. Arrive at Tsavo East in time for lunch, then head straight into an afternoon game drive.
Look for the park's red elephants, dust-bathed in the local laterite soil, plus lion, buffalo, and giraffe. Visit the Galana River and Lugard Falls if time allows. Dinner and overnight at a lodge or tented camp inside or near the park.
Day 2: Tsavo East – Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
Early morning game drive in Tsavo East before breakfast, when animals are most active. Check out and drive to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private 28,000-acre conservancy at the foot of the Taita Hills, bordering Tsavo West.
Afternoon game drive across the sanctuary, home to elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard, and over 350 bird species. Overnight at a lodge inside the sanctuary, several built on stilts overlooking a waterhole.
Optional Add-Ons
An optional night game drive to spot nocturnal wildlife rarely seen in the national parks.
Day 3: Taita Hills – Tsavo West National Park – Return
Morning game drive in Taita Hills or Tsavo West. Stop at Mzima Springs, a spring-fed pool where hippos and crocodiles are visible through an underwater viewing chamber.
Continue through Tsavo West's volcanic terrain, past the Shetani Lava Flow, with a final game drive en route. Drive back to Nairobi, Mombasa, or Diani, arriving late afternoon.
