Tsavo East is Kenya's largest national park, just 2.5 to 3 hours from Mombasa on tarmac road. It's home to the famous red elephants, named for the iron-rich dust they bathe in, plus lion, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and over 500 bird species.
This 2-day private safari takes you from your coastal hotel straight into the park for two full game drives, an overnight stay at a safari lodge, and back to the coast the next day. No group vans, no fixed departure times shared with strangers — you travel in a private 4x4 Land Cruiser with your own driver-guide, on your schedule.
This is one of the easiest ways to add a real safari to a Mombasa or Diani beach holiday without giving up more than one night away from the ocean.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Mombasa/Diani – Tsavo East
Pick-up from your hotel between 6:00 and 7:00 AM. Drive to Tsavo East via Bachuma Gate, roughly 2.5 hours, with a game drive en route to your lodge watching for elephant, buffalo, lion and giraffe.
Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive to Aruba Dam, a key water point where elephants gather, especially in dry season. Dinner and overnight at your chosen lodge on full board.
Day 2: Tsavo East – Mombasa/Diani
Early morning game drive before breakfast, the best window for predator sightings. Return to the lodge for breakfast and check-out.
Final game drive on the way out of the park, covering ground you missed on Day 1. Exit the park and drive back to the coast, arriving early to mid-afternoon.

Getting There
Tsavo East is reached via Bachuma Gate on the Mombasa–Nairobi highway (A109), about 150–170 km from Mombasa. The road is tarmac the whole way, so the drive takes 2.5 to 3 hours depending on pick-up location and traffic near Mariakani.
We collect guests directly from hotels in Mombasa town, Nyali, Bamburi, Shanzu, Kilifi, and Diani Beach. Guests from Watamu or Malindi can also be picked up, with an earlier start time.
No public transport option exists for this route; access is by private vehicle only, which is why the safari runs exclusively as a private tour.
